Skeive Stemmer (Queer Voices) is Norway’s first queer opera company made for and by queer people and artists. They want to create an arena that provides work and space for the development of queer talents and stories. Queer audiences and artists has been a part of the opera community, and this year Skeive Stemmer want to cater to this groups need to se their own stories portraited in the form of an opera. The opera company consists of the three opera singers Eldrid Gorset, Therese Khachik and Maria Dale Johannessen who all have their academic backgrounds from the Norwegian Academy of Music, Barratt Due Music Institute and the Academy of Opera at Oslo Academy of the Arts.
Since the company’s start-up in 2018, they have participated in the opening of Oslo Pride 2019, Trondheim Pride 2020, the Opera Festival in Kristiansund 2022 and many more events!
In 2020 they started a concert series at Rosendal Theater in Trondheim called “Opera Café” where they have done over 20 concerts throughout the pandemic. In September 2022, Skeive Stemmer will premiere its first full opera production “The Merry Wives in Windsor” by Otto Nicolai, at Rosendal Theater, during Trondheim Pride 2022.
