The frog feels so weird. He is light and warm and it says thump, thump inside his chest. What is it who’s in the way? Every time he meets the cute white duck it only gets worse. Has he perhaps fallen in love? – It doesn’t work! Said the pig. – A duck and a frog cannot be in love with each other. She is white and you are green. But the frog didn’t care about this. 

Author and illustrator Max Velthuijs (1923-2015) wrote the Frog books in the late 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s. The books depict feelings and friendship through beautiful illustrations in a way that children understand. The frog and friends have been part of the bookshelf for many children of the 1990s and surely they still hold up, so that the next generation can also enjoy them. Stage artists Hanne Oline Mellingen and Oda Alisøy have transformed the books into storytelling theater for children aged 3-5. Perhaps this is the first encounter with the theater as an art form and The Frog and Friends?
