“Piki’s voice does not resemble the voice of anyone else. It was lovely like the skin on the breasts, like the tickling of velvet against the neck – a warm hand under the blouse.
In an excerpt from Sofi Oksanen’s novel Baby Jane, we meet the confident and tough Piki “Helsinki’s coolest lesbian” as the story`s “I” is dating for a a short and intense time. The novel is devoted to the various stages of a love relationship; the crush, the crisis, the dissolution, the break and the redemption. It deals with love, depression and social anxiety. This is Oksanen’s second release. The Finnish-Estonian writer and playwright has been translated into many languages. In 2010, Oksanen won the Nordic Council Literature Prize for the novel Utensning.
This evening, Joakim Aadland, festival manager of Bergen Pride, will sit down with actors from DNS to discuss the representation of sexuality and identity in the theatre.
