Event Details

For many people with disabilities, the right to a user-controlled personal assistant (UPA) can be the very prerequisite for an independent life. The assistant makes it possible to participate in work and education, and  assistance in daily and private matters, such as transfer, nutrition and care.

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) establishes the right to a sexual life. But what happens when you need assistance with sexual acts, either with yourself or your partner? Is the assistant expected to facilitate this as well? Can the assistant conscientiously object to providing such service if it is contrary to the assistants beliefs and values?

This event discusses the ethical, practical and personal challenges that may arise.
