We have seen fantastic progress in terms of queer rights and inclusion in most areas since homosexuality was punishable 50 years ago. Although many LGBTI+ people live good lives in Norway today, LGBTI+ people are more exposed to hate speech, discrimination and harassment, and have worse living conditions than other Norwegian residents. Both the government and DnK therefore see the need both for better legal protection and changes in attitude. Nevertheless, unfortunately Christian communities are not always safe environments for queer Christians. In some Christian congregations, being queer is portrayed as incompatible with being a Christian and as a threat to Christian family values.
In the sofa conversation, we will discuss what place queerness has in the church how we can create a more inclusive church and congregation, whether more democratization is a part of the solution, if the Church of Norway can lead the way and show the way for other religious communities, and whether queers should get involved in Church elections, and how to do it
Leader of the Åpen folkekirke, Gard Sandaker-Nilsen, and priest in St. Jakob’s Church, Øyvind Rudolf, are coming. We accept questions from the audience.
