Event Details

To refer to people we are talking about, we use personal pronouns. The most common ones are “him” and “her”. These words also refer to the person’s gender. When we do not know the gender of the person we are talking about, or when we do not want to refer to gender, we need to look outside the dictionary. In January 2022, Språkrådet (the Norwegian Language council) asked for consultation for introducing “hen” as a gender-neutral pronoun.FRI Vestland and Bergen Pride will host a conversation about language and power. We will discuss how language can shape our understanding of gender identity and how the outside world perceives us based on the pronouns we use.
